Weekend Events and Blog Candy!!!!

We have a busy weekend coming up!  On Friday, Clyde and Julie will be down in Cape Girardeau for the Community Benefit Wine Festival at the Bavarian Halle from 6-9pm.  For more information about that event, contact Larry Essner at 573-339-6109.

Meanwhile, my parents and I are headed down to Branson for the Missouri Wine Festival at Chateau on the Lake on Saturday and Sunday.  For more information about that event, just click here.

And now, the promised BLOG CANDY!!!!!!  This one is so fun.  Every year Clyde and I head to Trout Lodge for about a week to relax and play.  The lodge is a YMCA facility like no other!  Three meals a day (and no dishes!!!!), lots of swimming, boating, windsurfing, hiking, sports, crafts, and no dishes (oops, I mentioned that already.  No dishes = relaxation for me!).  Ahhhhhh.  Seriously, there is a ton of activities all included to enjoy there, or you can just sit back and enjoy the view.  It’s a definite favorite on our getaway list when we aren’t on our own front porch!

So for our blog candy this week, I have a gift certificate for two adults/two kids for 3 days & 2 nights to Trout Lodge!  I can’t believe I’m giving this away…I want it myself!  My thanks to Andy and to all at Trout Lodge for generously sponsoring this blog candy.  To enter, leave a comment to this blog entry by April 30 at midnight.  I’ll use the random integer generator to come up with a winner, and I’ll announce the winner on May 1 in a new entry.

Here are a few of the highlights from our past visits to Trout Lodge:

Well, I hope I’ve tempted you to go make a comment – good luck to you!  Amanda will be here on Friday & Saturday keeping the shop open and the cooler stocked, so be sure to come on down and enjoy the beautiful weather this weekend.  Cheers!

Happy Earth Day! I grew up in Potosi, had swimming lessons out at Trout Lodge, we called it Sunnen Lake, way back then. I used to go fishing with my Dad on the lake, one night we actually saw the Northern Lights. I went with my grandparents to Sunrise Services on Easter at least once and afterwards we had a great breakfast overlooking the lake. Such a beautiful place. I remember the kids from STL coming down to enjoy the Lake and coming into our quiet little town to enjoy. I’m really dating myself.

The Lake is still name Sunnen Lake and we still do an Easter Sunrise Service. And of course there are still plenty of fish in the lake… lots of bass, blue gill and catfish. If you don’t win Katie’s give-away, you can come out on a day pass or just to fish as well.

A Trout Lodge gift certificate’d make a nice treat and re-awaken happy family memories of Spring Break and New Year’s visits there. If it doesn’t fall our way, we’ll aim to be at one or more days of the fun and music at Peaceful Bend, May 14-17, IF we find expendible cash in our budget: the show tix prices seem higher than I recall from prior visits.

Wow! You know how Bob and I love to trout fish! In fact, I just came out here to look for an open weekend at the cabin so we can come out and enjoy your place and some wonderful wine after fishing at the springs! I’m headed for the cabin calendar, now!

Greg, it is even better to enjoy the Fourche Renault since it is the creek that fills Sunnen Lake here at the Lodge. :-)

I just met Katie and her folks last weekend at the wine festival in Branson. I had loved “Huzzah Valley” so much when I tried it at a festival in St. Louis last February I was thrilled that they were at this festival too. My friend and I had to stop by Peaceful Bend on the way home from Branson to see the place where this great wine is made! Of course we found two more favorites, “Yadkin Creek” and “Concord”. Looks like Trout Lodge would be an awesome place to relax and enjoy a bottle of all three!
