Turtles…and I don’t mean the chocolate kind!

Yesterday, Clyde headed out to the end of the driveway with the forklift to unload a small load of supplies.  He came back up to the winery immediately and told me to grab my camera and go check out the turtle that was laying eggs.

That is a red-eared slider turtle.  After almost five inches of rain in the last two days, I guess she felt the time was right to come crawl out of our algea-covered pond and lay her eggs.  She even crossed the driveway to find a good spot for these eggs.  Now you know why the turtle crosses the road!

Clyde was pretty excited since he’s never seen a turtle laying eggs before.  Come to think of it, I never have either – just watched on TV.  Her hole was too muddy to see the eggs unfortunately, and now they are all covered up.  According to my internet reading, hatching may not take place for up to 85 days.  So it will be a while before I can show you any adorable baby turtle pictures.

While she was laying eggs, I realized that egg creation was happening right on top of my sneaker:

Um, I think maybe I should clean my sneakers soon.  ;)

Well, now that I’ve shown you how I took a break from accounting yesterday – I’ll just let you know that we’ll be bottling today and tomorrow.  Unfortunately, we’ve had to put off bottling Huzzah Valley and Harvest Mist until early next week.  If you are in need of either wine before Tuesday next week, check out these locations that carry our wine.  Many of them may have a few bottles to tide you over.

Thanks for your patience and Cheers!
