I just found this recipe, but alas, I have no ice cream maker. I’m going to try it tonight though, and just leave it in our freezer to see how it does. I’ll report on my findings in the comment section of this post. Meanwhile, if you have an ice cream maker, I’d be interested to hear how this recipe goes for you. It’s definitely a recipe you have to plan ahead for, no matter which way you make it!
Ingredients
- 1 2/3 cup Late Harvest Chardonel
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/4 cup fresh lime juice
Directions
- In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine all four ingredients.
- Stir occasionally for 3 minutes until the sugar dissolves.
- Increase the heat and bring to a boil. Boil for 30 seconds.
- Pour the liquid into a heat & freezer safe bowl to cool.
- Once cool, place in your freezer for one hour. (I’m going to leave mine in the freezer overnight at this point, since I don’t have that ice cream maker. Continue on though if you have one at your disposal.)
- Pour this cold mixture into the freezer can of your ice cream maker and freeze according to the manufacturer’s directions.
- Then spoon the sorbet into a freezer-safe container and freeze for 2 more hours or until the sorbet is firm.
- Serve by itself, with a fresh fruit topping, or a sauce of your choice.
So I’ll be back to let you know how my experiment turns out. Cheers!
ETA: O.k, so I made this just as I said I would, and it turned out great. In fact, in my opinion, don’t even bother with the ice cream maker stuff. Just leave the mix in the freezer over night and you’ll be good to go. The texture was a little like an icy slush instead of a sorbet, but it was still refreshing and delicious.
I’m pretty sure you could also get away with not adding any extra sugar, but that’s just a hunch.

I added an ETA to the post with my notes, so you wouldn’t have to hunt for them.
OK now you’re freaking me out….I left a tabletop ice cream maker @ the winery yesterday-did you not get it, or just write this before you noticed? BTW, the young lady in the winery was quite charming & generous…thank you! I’ll stop by one day in the next couple of weeks, hope to catch you in so I can say hi!
Whoops, sorry, yes I did receive it. I’ve just gotten caught up in several projects and forgot to mention that I have it here. I’ll try to play with on Monday or Tuesday this coming week. Thanks so much!
Cheers,
Katie
