Boy time flies when you’re having fun (and making wine)! It seems like we bottled just yesterday, but really it’s been close to three weeks since Old Woolam pulled in to bottle up all our wines for the year. I shared a photo of the bottling action back in April, but have neglected to show off some of the work in the wine cellar that we’ve been up to lately. Here’s what the main cellar looks like right now – stuffed full of pallets of wine! Once we get a tractor with a forklift again, we’ll be able to clear this room out pretty quickly.
As you may already know, we have our annual Wine Cellar Concert coming up in June, and one of our goals this year is to keep the main wine cellar cleared out after the concert so that we can use that space for events throughout the year. To do that, Clyde has worked hard on clearing out the ‘chilling cellar’, seen above, and another room which we have been using as storage/workshop space all these years. Clyde will be resurfacing the exposed wall at the far end of this hall soon. The cord hanging from the ceiling at the top right corner will plug in to a mixing tank eventually. I’m still amazed when I walk through this section of our wine cellar – I haven’t seen that much open floor space in the chilling cellar for a long time!
A wider door way was needed to go into the new cellar so that pallets and equipment can be easily moved in and out, so Clyde has been working on that project along with clearing out all his workshop items too. I’m only showing a sneak peek at the new space since there is still more to do to the new cellar, but I’ll post pictures of it once we have everything situated.
As I was finishing my tour of the wine cellar, I heard a bit of rustling back in the main cellar. I turned the corner back into the room to see what was going on and found that Polly had apparently been checking out all the changes behind me. I can’t tell if she approves or not!
Hopefully for the next update on the cellar I will show the main room in concert readiness and the new room too. Have you been up to any big changes in your space this spring?
