Soft Opening Fun

Soft Opening of Peaceful Bend VineyardSoft Opening Recap

Wow, do you all ever know how to make a gal feel good!  Our soft opening last weekend was filled with good people, delectable wine, delicious music, building tours, and lots of tasty memories.

We truly appreciated all the help our friends, family, and neighbors gave to help get the opening going on the right foot.  Connie & Crystal were a huge help at the tasting table.  As you can see above, they kept me laughing while I figured out all the nuances of our new cash register.

We ended up deciding to set up outdoors and said to heck with the interim tasting room for now.  Elliott Ranney set up his bandstand on the front porch of the new winery building, and everyone spread out on the “lawn” in front of the building.  It worked so well, I think we’ll keep this set-up for the next few weekends as long as weather allows.

Clyde and I were thrilled that so many of you could make it out to enjoy the beautiful weather with us.  It was a bigger turnout than I had anticipated, and we scrambled to pull together a hodge-podge of tables & chairs.  No one seemed to upset though, so thanks for all the patience!

I have to say, the turnout this weekend plus all the messages here on the website, on our social pages, and the emails you’ve sent buoyed our spirits ao much.  I think we might just make it through this final stretch to opening the new building.

Babies got dusty at the soft opening at peaceful bend vineyard

So many adorable babies (and fur babies!) joined in on the festivities Saturday.  While adults sampled wine, our grandson Micah (at top) and his cousin (above) had a blast sampling the dirt around here. 🙂

Day-After Soft Opening Cuteness

the day after the soft opening

After any big event, there is always cleanup, and I have to say we had a pretty cute clean-up crew this time around. The kids camped out and on Sunday morning, they helped restore order around here.  Then the grand kids plus Julie climbed into one of the big tanks that Clyde brought out to clean.

After installing the cleaned tank in it’s proper spot, Clyde gave a tractor ride to our grand-niece-in-law.  She perfected her royal wave as they drove by!

I hope you enjoyed this peek at our soft opening weekend. We want to ‘tank’ everyone that came out last weekend.  We are so lucky to have such wonderful customers.

And if you couldn’t make it, I hope you can join us on an upcoming weekend.  We’re looking forward to seeing you again soon. Cheers!

You just won’t recognize the place anymore

Winery Cleanup
As promised, I’m back to show the progress on the old winery cleanup site.  Can you believe what a difference?!? I am amazed at how fast, and what a change this has made in the landscape (and to be honest, our psyche as well) after the winery fire.  What was once a big pile of ashes is now….a big hole in the ground.

Winery Cleanup
After getting all the junk out of the space, Contractor Mark & his friend Mike spent 2 full days Wednesday and Thursday, jack-hammering out the old concrete.  The old dirt and concrete has been dumped over the side of the winegarden for future wine gardening!

There’s a closer look at the jackhammer attachment on Mark’s skid steer.  I’m pretty sure Clyde didn’t try to sneak off in the middle of the night to play with the toys, er, tools, after the guys left for the evening.  Pretty sure. 🙂

They still have a day or two left before everything will be finished, but they are definitely making headway on all that mess.

Last night, I was treated to a beautiful sunset.  Our new building will feature plenty of space to enjoy this type of scenery when you come for a visit!

I hope everyone out there has a safe and enjoyable Memorial Day Weekend.  Even though we’re not open, we will be thinking of you and making plans for you to come in the future.  Cheers!

Progress on the Winery Cleanup

A crew has been working over the weekend and week to cleanup the fire damage at the old winery.  Thought I’d show how much of the old site has been cleared away.  As a reminder, here’s the awefulness they started with:

That was the main cellar.

And that was the section below our apartment, which we affectionately used to call the tower.  More than three dumpsters have been filled between the trash and recyclables, cleaning up the old building site quite a bit.

As of Tuesday afternoon, much of the trash in the front, sides, behind, and in the forward areas in the cellar have all been scooped away.

The apartment side is even looking managable again.  Here’s the view from above – I was standing approximately where the old handicap ramp came up onto the winery front porch to take the next picture:

All those bottles! The crew has been working hard all day today, so I’ll go out for a few more photos tomorrow morning to share here too.  It’s good to finally have things moving forward, but a little weird to see the transformation at the same time.

In other news, Clyde will be making a batch of wine over at Red Moose Vineyard so we’ll have something to sell again as soon as we can build again.  If you have a hankering to get out to the countryside this Memorial Day Weekend, head on down to their place where you can enjoy live music, food, and tasty beverages.  I think Clyde and I will be hanging around speaking wine geek to anyone that will listen on Saturday afternoon! 🙂
