Just Up The Road: Cuba Lakes Golf Club

Just Up The Road: Cuba Lakes Golf Course

Today we are featuring Cuba Lakes Golf Club in our ‘Just up the Road’ series. This series features nearby businesses and attractions that I love. I’ll try to show a unique side of these places that aren’t necessarily highlighted on websites and such. I hope you enjoy these peeks into our neighborhood, and can plan to visit one of these spots in addition to your visit to the winery!

Last year I worked a tasting where I met a local caterer who turned out to be from Cuba Lakes Golf Club – Renee Ross.  The food at the tasting was delicious, and she expressed interest in working with the winery.  So this spring we put our heads together and came up with the idea that she will be providing limited lunch items at the winery on the weekends.  Last week was our first try, and the sandwiches & salads were delicious!  This week we’ll be featuring her turkey club wraps.

Knowing very little about the golf course, I met up with Renee this week to see and learn more.  Isn’t that fireplace in their pro shop adorable?  I mean inviting and rustic…very manly. 🙂

I love that old memorabilia on the fireplace mantle.  Cuba Lakes is a community-oriented public 9-hole course which has been in operation for a long time. Renee and her husband, Brad, took over the operation 5 years ago from Brad’s father.  Previously, Brad had managed over 100 truck stops & gas stations while Renee worked in the insurance business.

Brad’s father had asked him to help with the golf course in 2009, and once in the area, both Brad and Renee felt welcomed and right at home.  These days, Renee generally handles the food while Brad takes on the golf side of the business, but as Renee was quick to point out – they both help out where ever and when ever needed!

Visiting in the off-season meant that we had the golf course all to ourselves on Wednesday morning.  After I checked out the pro shop, dining room, and bar area, we cruised around to the lake where weddings often occur.  Even without the flowers and landscaping in full show, I could see that this is a lovely location.  The view of the lake above shows off the 2nd tee box on the course.

The golf course even has it’s own mascots – two doggies that love all the golfers (and their treats!). There’s Mulligan pictured above, catching a few rays of sunshine. Her buddy, Birdie, was no where to be seen during my visit, but I understand Birdie is quite the good luck charm on the course.

So if you are a golfer, or if you are just looking for a nice spot for lunch or dinner, be sure to check out Cuba Lakes Golf Course’s website to learn more. You can also find them on facebook here.

I hope you enjoyed this peek at a quiet spring morning at Cuba Lakes! Plan to enjoy one of their delicious lunch items here at the winery when you come for your next visit. We’ll be featuring them on Saturdays (and Sundays if supplies last!) throughout the year. Check back here or on any of our social networks to see what is offered each weekend. Cheers!
