You just won’t recognize the place anymore

Winery Cleanup
As promised, I’m back to show the progress on the old winery cleanup site.  Can you believe what a difference?!? I am amazed at how fast, and what a change this has made in the landscape (and to be honest, our psyche as well) after the winery fire.  What was once a big pile of ashes is now….a big hole in the ground.

Winery Cleanup
After getting all the junk out of the space, Contractor Mark & his friend Mike spent 2 full days Wednesday and Thursday, jack-hammering out the old concrete.  The old dirt and concrete has been dumped over the side of the winegarden for future wine gardening!

There’s a closer look at the jackhammer attachment on Mark’s skid steer.  I’m pretty sure Clyde didn’t try to sneak off in the middle of the night to play with the toys, er, tools, after the guys left for the evening.  Pretty sure. 🙂

They still have a day or two left before everything will be finished, but they are definitely making headway on all that mess.

Last night, I was treated to a beautiful sunset.  Our new building will feature plenty of space to enjoy this type of scenery when you come for a visit!

I hope everyone out there has a safe and enjoyable Memorial Day Weekend.  Even though we’re not open, we will be thinking of you and making plans for you to come in the future.  Cheers!

Progress on the Winery Cleanup

A crew has been working over the weekend and week to cleanup the fire damage at the old winery.  Thought I’d show how much of the old site has been cleared away.  As a reminder, here’s the awefulness they started with:

That was the main cellar.

And that was the section below our apartment, which we affectionately used to call the tower.  More than three dumpsters have been filled between the trash and recyclables, cleaning up the old building site quite a bit.

As of Tuesday afternoon, much of the trash in the front, sides, behind, and in the forward areas in the cellar have all been scooped away.

The apartment side is even looking managable again.  Here’s the view from above – I was standing approximately where the old handicap ramp came up onto the winery front porch to take the next picture:

All those bottles! The crew has been working hard all day today, so I’ll go out for a few more photos tomorrow morning to share here too.  It’s good to finally have things moving forward, but a little weird to see the transformation at the same time.

In other news, Clyde will be making a batch of wine over at Red Moose Vineyard so we’ll have something to sell again as soon as we can build again.  If you have a hankering to get out to the countryside this Memorial Day Weekend, head on down to their place where you can enjoy live music, food, and tasty beverages.  I think Clyde and I will be hanging around speaking wine geek to anyone that will listen on Saturday afternoon! 🙂

Floor Plan for the new winery building

Dumpster
Hi all!  Well I’m back this month with lots of updates and better news than I shared last month.  The first bit of good news is that cleanup of the old winery site is slated for this week.  Here’s the dumpster that’s been brought in to hold all the ashes/metal/trash from the old site.  Hard to believe it will all fit in there, but the bin folks tell us it will, so we’ll believe them for now.

Secondly, after many evenings of trying to come up with the “perfect” structure to rebuild, we finally settled on the following layout for a new building which will be located closer to the road:

FloorPlan
So that’s the upstairs and I just have to say – did you see all those bathrooms?!!!   🙂 That’s been a big request of mine from the get-go, so I’m glad we have lots of space for that amenity now.  Clyde’s big request was a loading dock.  He’s got his wishh too, locating one just below the back deck.

A big request from you all out there was food, so we are planning on installing a kitchen and providing some type of a menu for you when we re-open.

The downstairs is laid out with the same L-shape.  The larger section below the tasting/kitchen area will be dedicated to wine making, and the section below the storage/bathroom/office spaces will be for beer making.

Yes, we hope to make our own beer once we are back up and going again!

Winery Plan
The outside will be laid out to enjoy wine-gardening since we know you guys like spending time in the great outdoors when you swing by.  A covered front porch (above) and back deck will protect you from rain. Plus, we’ll have a large patio-style winegarden on the side of the building where we can enjoy our firepits and picnic tables.  The patio and back deck will have fantastic views of the sunsets over our hay field. I’m thinking I’ll want to enjoy thoses views with you when you visit!

Unless you want to be left alone. 🙁

So when is this all going to happen?  Well, I don’t quite have that answer yet.  Currently, Gerald is finalizing the bid for us, so I’m not sure when we’ll get started on the new building, but I’ll be sure to let you know here, on Facebook, and on Instagram when we do.  Also, as we get closer, we’ll host a live facebook ‘groundbreaking’ event, so keep an eye out for that and join us online when we go live.

That’s it for now, but I’m looking forward to hearing from you AND especially to when we can get together again.  I’ll be back soon – Cheers!
