Sparkle Farkle Winner & Foundation Tour

Sparkle Farkle Tournament 2017
Hi all!  Fourth of July week turned out to be a busy one around here.  I hope you all enjoyed the holiday too.  The photo above is myself with the winner of the Sparkle Farkle Tournament, Steve Leonard, along with Zimm from Red Moose Winery (who kindly opened up for us that day to host the tournament).  Steve chose a bottle of Red Moose’s semi-sweet red wine called 38th Parallel for his winnings.

Here are a couple more photos of the fun from the tournament:

I couldn’t resist giving the winner rabbit ears, meanwhile, making myself look ridiculous.

The winner of the first Sparkle Farkle tournament, Bob, shows how happy he is that he didn’t win this year. Aww…better luck next year Bob!

Speaking of Awww…after the tourny was over, I captured a quick shot of lovebirds, Judy and Gary chatting with Amanda.

While we were Farkle-ing, our construction crew was busy, busy, busy getting the foundation forms set up on the holiday so that they could pour concrete the next day. After most of the dust settled at the end of the week, I made a little video tour to show off the progress and document this stage. Give it a watch if you have a couple minutes:

This week our contractor is focussed on putting tar on the foundation walls and setting drain tile in place. It’s so hot that they start early and have to move to another cooler job by noon, but they are still making good headway.

I hope you all are enjoying the summer so far. I’ll be back again with more updates soon!

R.I.P. Spark

Spark
I’m here with sad news this morning. Our older cat, Spark, died sometime last night of old age.  She provided many moments of love and mirth around here over the years and will be missed.

20151130_150454She will be remembered fondly for her ability to warm laps, her haughty expressions, conning food out of even the most ardent of cat-haters, and a rather evil dexterity when it came to beating up my neighbor’s dog Paco the chihuahua.  Happy trails Spark.

Good things coming!

ClearingTrees-1
Hi all!  I’m so excited to post this update since we have a couple of pieces of big news.First up, the excavator is out here today clearing trees and brush for the new winery building.  The picture above is looking across the driveway from the cottage around 6:30(ish) this morning.

That’s a closer look at the tangled woods that have to come out.  Clyde has been sitting on his hands to keep from playing with driving this bulldozer!

Fortunately the professional equipment operator kept his keys!  And put in a good morning’s work – here’s what the same spot looks like now:

Whoa! I have to admit I was a bit in shock when I looked out the window late this morning, and could see our hay field instead of those trees. It was a little taste of what everyone will get to enjoy once we have the new building up and running.

By the way, if you’d like an idea of what we’ll be putting up, check out this post for a peek at our plans.

The other piece of news is that Clyde is making wine at our wonderful winery neighbors, Red Moose Vineyards.  He started three batches of wine last week in their empty tanks, and has one more load of juice coming in this afternoon.  Hopefully by the time the building is ready, we’ll have at least a few of our normal wines available to purchase again.

Right now we hope to have the production area of the new winery ready to go by harvest time in August, but I’m not sure on when the tasting room will be ready.

It feels so good and uplifting to have all this forward momentum going on here.  I can’t thank everyone that has donated to us, given us a shoulder to cry on, or sent us an encouraging note – you’ve been lifesavers!  I’m really looking forward to seeing you all again very soon.  Cheers!
